So how cool, my mom gave me her bulky knitting machine!! I have a standard gauge machine but have always wanted a bulky. I couldn’t wait to swatch, but I’ve been so busy that’s all the time I’ve had with it.I’d like to make some felted bags, and of course baby clothes, too!

And by the way, here’s the progress on the overalls. I’ve been knitting a little each day,

not much progress, but they’re getting there!! I love the yarn.

I also just finished this project. A shrug that was constructed of an open weave knit fabric and edge finished with a crochet scallop, I really like the way it worked out.

I’ve also made a couple projects from Quilting Arts Gift Issue that I just picked up-some great projects using free motion. Next post I’ll share the ideas I came up with.

So I’m going to be a Grandma, I’m already a step Grandma to 2 really cool boys, Liam & Connor-so I’ve had some practice. They are so much fun and I really really enjoy spending time with them. Come to think of it, I haven’t knit them any sweaters-yikes! what a bad grandma, but I did make mittens and scarfs-does that count?? Now it’s time to start knitting for a new baby! …maybe a little girl??? Don’t know yet, so I’ve pulled out my old knitting books that I used for my own kids-I loved to knit for them.

My favs are my Phildar books.

The designs are all shown in sherbet colors-I’m going to do them in updated colors, like spinach with lilac or lt blue. I picked up some awesome yarn at River Colors, Debbie Bliss baby cashmerino-OMG it’s luscious. I’ve been very tempted to use my knitting machine, but for now I’m going to enjoy the process of handknitting for my first grandchild. (I know the knitting machine will come out again soon enough!)

I made it this time in Coriander print in pine, with the lower tier in Kashmir print–I love this one, too! I normally use invisible zippers, but didn’t have one on hand so I used a center application zipper at the back, I forgot how easy they were, too. I just like the look - or no look of the invisible zippers much better.

The key to putting zippers in is the basting, don’t skip this step-it’s worth the extra time and hassle. I also use a glue stick to set the zipper in for the basting, it keeps the zipper from sliding around.

These were the prints I made my first skirt…love it!!! Lacework and Seeds print also from Amy butler.

I finally had time to make a Barcelona skirt—I love it. I made it in Amy’s Lacework print in olive, and since I like my skirts on the long side, I added another tier to the bottom in Seeds print, also in Olive. I could wear this skirt everyday. And of course, like many of you, I made it just a little too big, (my fat brain cells, I guess). I didn’t launder the fabric first, so I thought it would shrink just right, wrong, and I should have known better. This fabric is such nice quality it didn’t shrink, so I just may take it in a smidge. It sits a little lower than my waist, which is good–(no muffin top!!!) I’m planning on making another using Coriander print in pine–and I know I will love it just a much!! The one thing I really really like, is the muslin lining. It’s just the right weight for a summer skirt, and cotton, so it’s cool even in the hot Cleveland summer weather! Oh and don’t forget, Amy will be visiting Stitch Cleveland on August 15th, so mark your calendars ’cause you don’t want to miss this booksigning. She will be signing her new book, Little Stitches for Little Ones-we will have copies in the store shortly, so stop in to reserve your copy. BTW more Amy Butler fabric is on it’s way as we speak!
